The market is already up by a third this year

A new property bonanza is under way as house sales showed a record breaking start to the year, figures revealed yesterday.

Sales soared by more than a third and prices rose five per cent during the first three months, and the number of properties sold for more than £1 million nearly doubled - the equivalent of more than 10 a dayaccording to Government figures.

Now property economists say the momentum could fuel another house-sale boomthis year, and that is welcome news for home owners bombardedwith dire warnings of an impending housing crash.
