Mortgage Lending Stays At Record Level - The Times Aug 06
Mortgage lending by banks equalled its previous record level in July, underscoring the robust state of the housing market before this months decision by the Bank of England to raise interest rates.
Banks lent homebuyers a net £5.7bn last month, matching the previous record set in May, said the British Bankers Association. David Brooks, BBS Director of statistics, said " The robust nature of mortgage lending continues, with recent monthly net increases not far short of the movements seen when lending peaked in 2003-04".
