Record Lending - The Metro Aug 06

Gross mortgage lending was its highest ever last month, reflecting the spring pick-up in the housing market.

A record £32.2 billion was borrowed, said the Council of Mortgage Lenders - 11 per cent more than in May and 30 per cent higher than the amount lent in June last year.
