Peckham Beats Surrey In The Housing Stakes - The Metro Aug 06
House prices in London have gone up almost twice as fast as those in the Home Counties commuter belt, a new report shows.
Over the past year, London prices have risen by an average 8.1 per cent, with some boroughs seeing increases of around 15 per cent.
In contrast, the biggest rise in the Home Counties was seen in Berkshire, where prices went up by 5.4 per cent, making it the second most expensive location outside London.
But the average price in Surrey, where prices rose only 2.6 per cent in the past year, has now been overtaken by the London borough of Southwark which includes Heighbourhoods such as Peckham, Bermondsey and Camberwell where they went up four times as muchat 10.6 per cent.
