House prices soared to a new high at the begining of the year, official figures showed yesterday, despite a rise in interest rates. It took the annual house price inflation to 10.9 per cent. Annual house price inflation was 9.9 per cent for Britain and 11.6 per cent for London.

First Time Buyers continue to be hit by rising prices. Annual inflation for them rose from 9.4 per cent in December to 10.6 per cent.

The highest inflation rate in England was recorded in London. It was up 13.2 per cent in January, from 11.8 per cent in December.
