Jump In Mortgage Lending As Housing Market Picks Up - Evening Standard January 06

Mortgage lending soared to the second highest figure on record last month as the housing market continued to show signs of strengthening.

A total of £28.5 billion was advanced during the month, 5 per cent higher than October's figure and 30 per cent above the level for November last year, the Council od Mortgage Lenders said.

It was the second largest amount ever advanced in a single month, beaten only by the £28.9 billion lent during July last year, it said.
